This book will have you go through the emotional spectrum. So many hard hitting tough issues are dealt with throughout the book that I am compelled to say a warning. If you have a weak stomach for some sad hard emotional issues such as human trafficking, abuse, prostitution than i would not read this. This tackles these issues head on and one of the lead characters is brought into this world and was even in this world. Not of her own making but she was. This helped form her. Helped build her shell and make her tough to crack. Raya is the main female character and her life was no picnic. Her childhood made her tough but vulnerable as well. She was a tough nut to crack but she was in my thoughts vulnerable because she like all of us wants to feel love, wanted and to trust that someone is inherently good and won’t hurt you. Raya goes through so much turmoil you can’t help but root for a happy ending for her and I hope it is with duke. Duke is that type of guy. They meet in high school and sparks fly. Problem duke is a stand up great guy and has a girlfriend. He is also genuine and real. He does begin to fall for Raya as well. These two deny there attraction so that they can protect themselves and their friendship. Can’t deny for long though because it eats away at you. The title for this book is apt because the book shows how slowly each little thing that happens in your life whether it be significant or not helps to shape and define us. This book is a captivating read about love, friendships and struggles in which we such hard hitting issues being looked at and we are put in the emotional washing machine. Look forward to the next book.
Hello Book LoverBook Blogger
I just finished this book. It was WOW. Trust me I was little hesitant to pick this up as I thought it was simple love story. but HELL MAN! It’s so wrong to judge! First of the cover is so beautiful it brings out what the story is about, how the book will be. The cover was the main attraction. Looking at the cover I realized I need to read this book. I love intense, emotional book and this book was so so much better. I kept reading and reading! There were few things which I don’t particularly like in a book now I understand it depends upon the author how she says her story and I loved everything in it. Even the things which I don’t usually like because they felt read, like its coming out of heart. Duke was one of the most sweetest boyfriends ever. I loved him from the start. His pain, his love, his loyalty is worth my respect. I love you Duke and Raya- You were the best.A wonderful strong characters who survived.who was intelligent , took realistic decisions and was awesome. When you read the book you will feel like you are there in the book feeling everything. Its painful, intense and heartbreaking. It’s amazingly written and I would recommend to everyone who loves a strong, touching romance. Who believes in second chance. This is a love story you can relate to. You can tell you children about it. It feels real.

Did I like this story? YES! Did I like the characters? YES! I won’t give you any spoilers or tell you what happens in the story. I want you to read the story and find out for yourself. With the Synopsis you get an idea. In the beginning I couldn’t see where the story was going, I thought it was going to be a love triangle, it’s not! I felt the characters were way too nice, Duke is your boy next door and Melanie is the sweet popular girl next door. Raya feels like she doesn’t fit in because of her situation at home(I’m not telling)which affects her self-esteem. But, Duke and Melanie welcome her and immediately make her part of their group. It is their senior year and they all look forward to Prom, that is where everything changes. After Prom this story takes on a very serious and dark twist. It will have you biting your nails (I did), screaming at the characters (I did), cursing the author (I did) and throwing your Kindle/Nook on the floor (I didn’t-then I wouldn’t be able to finish reading). Madison Street did a great job on her debut novel. It will make you laugh, it will make you scream and it will make you cry. I love a book that makes me cry, because that means it has touched me deeply. You feel for the characters as they go through their tribulations and with the story the characters grow up and mature. This story is about true love, true friendship, and loyalty. There is suffering, but there is also happiness. Enjoy!
